Maybe you rarely feel genuinely happy anymore. You may have suffered a loss that left you reeling, or perhaps your depression symptoms seem to have crept up out of nowhere. Either way, you don’t feel like you have much to look forward to, and you doubt that things will get much better. Even when life seems to be going well on the surface, you can’t help but feel sad and emotionally numb.

Sometimes, you probably wish that you could just tell your loved ones what you’re going through. But you might worry that they won’t truly understand or that they will judge you negatively for it. As a result, depression may have led you to withdraw from your social circle and you feel like you don’t have anyone to lean on.

Depression can also cause physical symptoms--maybe you find yourself dealing with frequent headaches and other pain in various parts of your body. Perhaps you’ve begun self-medicating or overeating to deal with your symptoms. Your loved ones may be concerned about your substance use, and you might wish that you could stop, but you’re desperate to escape from your emotional pain

It can be hard to picture your life free from the dark cloud of depression—but with support, healing is possible. Depression treatment can help you get your symptoms under control and discover your enthusiasm for life again.

Depression Is A Natural Response To Painful Events

Nearly everyone goes through periods of intense sadness in life. Depression is simply part of the human experience. A divorce or breakup, the death of a loved one, or even the loss of a job can cause someone to become depressed. However, it is also possible for someone to develop clinical depression without experiencing any inciting event.

Despite the fact that depression is so common, overcoming depression without professional support can be difficult. While it is becoming more acceptable to talk about mental health issues publicly, speaking up about depression has traditionally been  stigmatized. Additionally, some people might be shamed by their friends or relatives when they express that they’ve been struggling. They may worry that admitting they have depression means that they are weak because of all the negative messaging around mental health in our culture.

Furthermore, depression can cause someone to draw inward and become isolated from their usual support network. Someone who is living with depression may struggle with a poor sense of self-worth and feel like no one can empathize with them. They may be hesitant to reach out to friends and family, especially if they haven’t seen them in a while and are afraid of being a burden to them.

Through therapy, you can address the root cause of your depression and begin healing. . With my help and support, I am confident that you can begin to form a brighter vision of your future.

Depression Treatment Can Help You Cultivate Joy In Life

You may be nervous about going to counseling, especially if you’ve been exposed to the idea that asking for help for depression is shameful. But in therapy, you’ll be able to share your feelings in a safe, non-judgmental space. And with ongoing support, you’ll gradually be able to build the life you want.

What To Expect In Depression Treatment Sessions

I am currently holding telehealth sessions, which allows you to attend therapy appointments from the comfort of your own home. During your first session, you will have the opportunity to describe what brought you to therapy and which signs of depression you’ve been struggling with. By gaining an understanding of your needs and your personal history, I can formulate your custom treatment plan. Once we’ve clearly identified the problems you’ve been dealing with, we can start working towards solutions.

In treatment, you’ll discover how to shift your beliefs about yourself so that you can envision a better future. After all, depression can cause you to develop negative beliefs that are not grounded in reality. Dismantling these beliefs is a key aspect of the healing process.

Furthermore, you’ll have the opportunity to begin the intensive work of forgiving yourself and others. Dwelling on past mistakes you’ve made can exacerbate your symptoms and take a toll on your self-esteem. And while forgiving others who may have hurt you can be challenging, it’s also liberating, and true forgiveness can feel like releasing a burden.

Tailoring Your Depression Treatment Plan

During sessions, we will focus on mindfulness techniques that can help you manage your depression symptoms outside of therapy. For instance, depending on your treatment plan, we might spend time working on guided meditation and breathing techniques.

In my practice, I apply several different therapeutic modalities to help you explore the roots of your depression, learn to manage your symptoms, and build your self-worth. Psychodynamic therapy allows you to delve into the roots of your depression through self-reflection and analysis. You can uncover how your emotions, beliefs, and childhood experiences are all connected to the struggles you have today. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, you’ll reevaluate your negative beliefs and start rewriting your thought patterns based on what you know to be true rather than what you feel.

I take an eclectic, solution-focused approach to treating depression. In depression treatment, helping clients focus on realistic solutions is a primary goal. While I emphasize CBT and psychodynamic therapy, I can also draw from other modalities to develop unique treatment plans for clients.

But You May Still Have Questions About Depression Treatment…

I’m ashamed to seek therapy for depression.

Although there is some stigma surrounding depression treatment in our culture, seeking support is actually a sign of strength. It takes courage to change your life and begin working towards genuine healing. There is nothing shameful about recognizing that you need support along the way.

Can I really afford depression treatment?

I understand that some people who want to pursue therapy hesitate simply because of the cost. That’s why I aim to make therapy affordable for all of my clients with income-based, sliding-scale fees. I encourage you to picture the cost of therapy as an investment into your future happiness and wellbeing—something that has no price tag.

I’ve had poor experiences with a past therapist - is it worth trying therapy again?

Not every therapist is a good fit. But even if you have a negative impression of a former therapist, you may have a better experience with a different one. You can always give therapy a second chance. By integrating mindfulness, CBT, and psychodynamic therapy, I believe I can provide counseling that is personalized and effective. By opening yourself up to the possibility of a positive therapeutic relationship, you can finally begin your healing journey.
